New historical fiction novel set in the French Revolution written by Doncaster woman

After suffering a stroke, a Doncaster author put pen to paper and wrote a new historical fiction set in Versailles following the turbulent lives of aristocrats.

The ‘Journey to Versailles’ follows a young woman living in the time of the French Revolution.

The novel was written by Mary Hawkes who lives in Bessacarr.

“Thankfully I have partially recovered and can now speak.

“But most importantly I can type which enabled me to finish this book.”

Mary is still suffering with gaps of memory but has mostly recovered.

The ‘Journey to Versailles’ is Mary’s second novel and it is currently available as Kindle E-book.

She wrote her first book five years ago and it is titled “The Sorceress and The Sun King.’

Both of her novels are of the Historical Fiction genre as she has a keen interest in history in her personal life.

Mary worked as a Law lecturer at Doncaster College before she dived into becoming an author in retirement.

“Before I could only write in my spare time but I have really enjoyed being able to write more freely.”

She has always had an interest in French history and loves to explore it through her novels.

“The plot of my new book surrounds an aristocrat who steals a child and raises her as his own,” Mary said.

“The child is unaware and grows up in a very different world than the one she was born into.

“But her mother doesn’t give up trying to get her back and after many years she meets her during a march in the French revolution.”

After which chaos ensues and the backdrop of the 18th century France provides an interesting plot according to Mary.

In the future Mary hopes to explore other periods of French and English history for setting to new novels.
