Meadowhall reveals perfect tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore after death, aged 100

The man whose fundraising heroics provided some much-needed light during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic sadly died on Tuesday after testing positive for Covid-19.

He had raised more than £32 million for the NHS during lockdown one by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday last April, with his efforts proving a ray of hope for the nation and earning him a knighthood.

People across the country joined a national clap led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson for the inspirational veteran on Wednesday evening at 6pm.

Meadowhall shopping centre announced on Wednesday: “Tonight we’re turning our lights blue at 6pm in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore and the amazing health workers he supported through his fundraising.”

The gesture was widely praised, with one woman commenting: "Sir Tom Moore will always be in heart our hearts We have clapped for you Sir and the NHS.”
