IT Support Officer named as the star of Doncaster health Trust at awards ceremony

A man who helps run Doncaster hospitals’ IT services has been named ‘Star of the Year’ at an awards ceremony.

Matthew Lovell-Davies, who is known as Matty to his colleagues, friends and family, works at the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts’ extremely busy IT service desk.

He took the accolade at the Trust’s annual 2019 star awards ceremony.

In his role, Matty is responsible for supporting the helpdesk phone line and assisting callers with their computer troubles.

This could be anything from offering advice, to resetting system accounts, to diagnosing hardware issues and referring them to a computer engineer.

Speaking about Matty’s achievement, Suzy Brain England OBE, Trust chairman, said: “For colleagues who aren’t quite so tech-savvy, IT issues can be frustrating and so having someone like Matty on board makes a massive difference.

“His swift and knowledgeable support helps everyone feel more at-ease and comfortable when they encounter a computer problem, enabling them to concentrate of delivering high quality patient care and treatment.’’

Matty’s award was just one of 11 awards handed out at the ceremony, presented by BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration, MBE. Others included Unsung Hero of the Year, Leader of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

After the ceremony, Matty said: “I would like to say thank you to my colleagues across the Trust for selecting me to be the ‘Star of the Year’. It was totally unexpected, and I’m thrilled to accept the award.

“I also want to thank the rest of the IT team who support the trust every day, as well as every other member of Team DBTH.”
