How savvy Sheffield dad got his weekly £30 Morrisons food shop for just £3

Dad of one Jonathan Hanson has revealed how his shop included bags of fruit and vegetables, crisps and chicken breasts and leftover Christmas goodies – all by using a food waste app.

He told The Sun that he has picked up several bargains using the app and collected his latest bumper box from a Morrisons store in Sheffield.

The box of reduced food included £10 worth of chicken and Jonathan, 36, snapped it up through the Too Good To Go app, which helps reduce waste by allowing food outlets to sell goods approaching their use by dates for a cut price.

The thrifty shopper, who shared details on the bargain box on LatestDeals.co.uk, has used the app a few times before to feed his family.

He said: "Usually the Morrisons bags are stuffed with vegetables, always worth well over £10, however this time I felt I hit the jackpot.

"My bag contained two kilos of fresh chicken breast, a large top brand ham, sausage rolls, pork pies, mini pasties, chicken kievs, pasties, humous, quiches and savoury eggs."

Morrisons is currently the only supermarket that has signed up to the scheme but only 80 out of the 491 shops currently offer the service.

Its reduced rate boxes are really popular but many users struggle to get one for themselves due to the limited number on offer and how fast they sell out.

So far, Jonathan has managed to purchase three boxes from Morrisons - this time he picked it up from a local store in Sheffield.

The food is all close to expiry but you can freeze it, or cook something up and keep it for a few days more.

He added: "I love to use the Too Good To Go app as not only do I get a bargain, but I also save wasted food and get to try things I may not otherwise choose to buy.”
