Residents across the borough decked their homes with bunting and took picnics into their front yards and gardens to mark the anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe, to have socially distanced street parties.
Residents on Windle Square, Kirk Sandall had the bunting out, and even managed to display an air raid warden’s helmet.
And residents on Manor Road, Askern, mixed their decorations with traditional wartime tunes, such as the songs of Vera Lynn.
Resident Kerri Gillespie said: “The street came alive in an ocean of red, white and blue bunting and flags yesterday with an atmosphere even Churchill would be proud of.”
