"We have a great team and an excellent vision, and I look forward to playing my part to continue to make Sheffield the warm and welcoming place it is.”

Magid first came to Sheffield with his mother and siblings as refugees from Somalia in 1994.

The 31-year-old had served as the Lord Mayor of Sheffield from May 2018 to May 2019, attracting massive media attention as he was the first ethnic-Somali, the youngest ever and the first Green Party councillor to hold the role.

He currently heads up a new pan-European organisation that is dedicated to racial justice and climate justice.
