Former Doncaster NHS worker 'retires' after baking 10,000 cakes for key workers

A former Doncaster NHS worker has announced her ‘retirement’ after baking a staggering 10,000 cakes for key workers during lockdown.

Lyndsey Chambers, 43, from Sprotbrough has been baking around the clock since the start of lockdown to help keep the region’s keyworkers fed.

She said: “Over 12 weeks of lockdown, I have baked 10,000 pieces of cake and it’s been distributed around lots of departments in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS trust, DRI, Mexborough, Tickhill Road, Bassetlaw, Barnsley Hospital and also to our key workers in the local community who have all put their lives at risk to continue to provide us with the services we need.

“I would not have been able to do this baking without the many donations I have recieved, so I would like to personally thank each and everyone of you for all the support and community spirit you have shown.”

“I would also like to thank both Jerry Day and Claire Day who have collected the cake taken the cake into work and distributed it.”

Leftover money – £320 - given to finance ingredients will be donated to the Kevin’s Wheels appeal to help raise money for wheelchairs and set up following the death of DRI plaster technician Kevin Smith from coronavirus.

She added: “I would like to say thank you to all the NHS staff and key workers for your dedication throughout this tough time and on behalf of everyone I hope a piece of cake has put a smile on peoples face during this very testing time.”
