Things are hotting up in our just for fun Doncaster World Cup competition – and we now know the suburbs and villages who have made it to the last 16.

After some tremendous tussles in the round of 32, we are now down to the last 16 – as plenty of villages moved one step closer to the 2021 title, claimed last year by Tickhill, who are still bidding for this year’s prize.

We are trying to find out which part of our beloved Donny deserves to be crowned number one – wherever you live

Arguably the tie of the round, the big guns clash between Armthorpe and Bentley saw the former triumph in the battle of the pit villages.

It means Bentley and Thorne, who contested last year’s 3rd and 4th place play off are now both out though.

There’s still a chance for one of the minnows to progress, with Austerfield, Braithwell and Brodsworth still in the mix.

But Braithwell will have to overcome last year’s runners-up while Austerfield have a formiddable task against Conisbrough on paper.

Our series of Twitter poll votes have now opened for the last 16 – and a place in the last eight.

After that, it will be the quarter finals, semi finals and then the grand final where YOUR vote will decide on Doncaster’s top spot for the second year in a row.
