Doncaster woman launches her own music career after discovering writing lyrics helped her mental health

A Doncaster singer can’t wait for live music to return so that she can share her new tracks with the world.

Bex Cockram started writing music in early 2019.

But she has always had a passion for music and was attached to karaoke machines from a young age.

Bex, 33, from Balby, said: “I’ve been singing since I was eight years old.

“It’s a massive part of my life and has helped me with my mental health.

"I have gone through a lot in life and this is my version of self help.”

Bex said that writing music has been therapeutic and putting issues down on paper has been a release.

She has so far written three songs.

“Sacralidge was my first song,” she said.

“It’s about someone who can’t be with the person they love.

“At Last I see the Light is a very personal song based on my life.

“I think a lot of people can relate to the struggles in the lyrics.

“Test of Time is my latest song which was inspired by my husband.”

Bex has big plans to perform her songs in venues in Doncaster when restrictions are eased this summer.

She hopes to join the festival circuit and grow her local fan base.

“I gigged for around 10 years in my teens and early 20’s,” she continued.

“I can’t wait to get back out there when the world is normal again.”
