Doncaster model wins £15,000 on reality TV show despite missing £100,000 jackpot

A model from Doncaster has scooped a whopping £15,000 on a Channel 4 reality TV show – despite missing out on the £100,000 jackpot prize.

Luke Garth, 26, a plumber and part time model, was among a string of contestants aiming to triumph on reality TV show The Bridge where men and women of all ages had to work together to reach a cash prize on an island in the middle of a lake by constructing a bridge.

And while Luke missed out on the main prize, he walked away with a bundle of cash – after sabotaging the group’s work and destroying the bridge at the last minute.

In the penultimate episode, Luke was forced to destroy 100ft of the bridge as he bowed out of the competition. – in exchange for a big money prize.

The group was told they must choose one person to leave the process taking £10,000 with them – but little did they know that their beloved structure would be wrecked as a result, just three days before their deadline.

Luke, who already pocketed £5k during an overnight mission, opted to put himself forward to leave and the rest of the group quickly agreed that he should be the one to go.

And as he hopped onto a canoe to vacate the island, he was told that in order to get his hands on the money he had to sabbotage the bridge.

Luke was handed an axe by one of the producers and it wasn’t long before he hacked away at the construction. ‘I didn’t like that,’ he said afterwards. ‘Oh, that is f***ing awful.’

In a series of twists in the final episode, fellow contestants Julie and Sly walked away with £40,000 each after agreeing to split the money having spend 20 days constructing the bridge and overcoming a number of hurdles and disasters.

The show saw 12 strangers from across the UK thrown together in the wilds of the of Denbighshire/Conwy border to build a 850ft bridge across the waters of Llyn Brenig reservior in a bid to walk away with the huge cash prize.
