Players from Scawthorpe Scorpions U12s took on the gruelling challenge in their own lockdown version of the 3 Peaks Challenge.

But rather than actually scaling some of the globe’s most feared peaks the team did it from the comfort of their own homes and gardens.

Each team walked the equivalent steps of climbing and descending three of the biggest mountains in the world – Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro and K2 – a combined distance of 309,040 steps.

The steps were recorded daily by team captains – and the girls only took two days to complete the challenge, despite it being predicted it would take them 5-7 days.

A club spokesman said: “I think we can all agree these girls have all excelled in this, completing it all within two days is phenomenal.

“Well earned rest now girls!”

“If you have already donated and can spare a little more please do. If you haven’t yet donated and were meaning to, then now’s the time or if you know anyone who would be happy to donate please show them what the girls achieved and ask them to donate what they can.”

The girls were raising cash for The Association of NHS Charities, the same charity 100-year-old Captain Tom Moore has raised £32 million for by walking 100 laps of his garden.
