Doncaster dancers surprise teacher with 60th birthday dance routine

A group of Doncaster dancers sprung a big birthday surprise on their teacher – by turning up to do a socially distanced song and dance routine outside her home.

Doncaster dance teacher Marie Newsome thought her 60th birthday would pass off quietly because of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

But dancers of all ages from the Marie Newsome School of Dancing had other ideas and rocked up at her home in Edenthorpe to provide a socially distanced musical routine to mark her big day.

Marie, who has been teaching since she was 15 years old, was left stunned when dancers in their dancing tops turned up outside her home in Coningsburgh Road to perform their routine.

Dancer Jemma Rich said: “She is a massive part of our lives. A few dancers have been with Marie since she opened and still dance now in the adult tap group. I've been there 34 years. We wanted to surprise her.”
