Michelle McMahon, who runs the Barnardo’s shop at Scawsby in Doncaster, wants to collect hundreds of eggs which she will then pass on to the town’s food banks to be distributed to local children this Easter.

She said: “We’ve all had a terrible Christmas and I know the food banks are always needing help.

"The little ones don't understand the situation, so I’m wanting to provide as many young ones as possible with an Easter egg.”

In the previous lockdown, she helped collect and deliver groceries for the elderly and this time, she wants to turn her attentions to the town’s youngsters with a few chocolate treats.

Because the shop on Barnsley Road is currently closed due to coronavirus restrictions, eggs can be delivered to Michelle’s home address as the scheme is her own independent drive and not connected to the charity.

She said: “I’m determined to cheer the kiddies up for Easter. The more that donate, the more eggs I can give out.

“I’m wanting to just give Doncaster a better Easter for the children.”

She hopes to collect at least 500 eggs – but is hoping people of Doncaster can push the total even higher.

Donations can also be made via PayPal.

Anyone wanting to donate eggs can contact Michelle through Facebook for her address details.
