Doncaster cake maker joins bakeathon for Capt Tom Moore's 100th birthday

A Doncaster cake maker has helped heroic Captain Tom Moore celebrate his 100th birthday – by baking a cake as part of a nationwide bakeathon.

Melanie Williamson of Sprotbrough’s Custom Cakery was among bakers from across getting busy in the kitchen to bake and help Capt Moore mark his big day today.

She said: “A group of award winning cake artists made cakes to celebrate Capt Tom's 100th birthday and we are trying to get the video as far and wide as we can as we'd dearly love for him to see it!”

Captain Moore has become a national treasure after walking 100 laps of his garden in aid of NHS charities.

He had inititally aimed to raise £1,000 to mark his birthday today but the campaign spiralled and has raised a whopping £30 million.

He is also at number one in the charts and was treated to a flypast this morning to mark his big day.
