Doncaster band's online tribute show for guitarist who died from coronavirus

An online concert tribute to a well-known and popular Doncaster musician who died of coronavirus will be held tonight.

Paul Piercy, a member of acclaimed Doncaster band Stafford Galli, died earliers this month from COVID-19.

Fans, fellow musicians and pupils of the guitar teacher rushed to pay tributes in the wake of his death.

Now Stafford Galli’s Martin Ferguson will be playing an online concert tonight remembering Mr Piercy.

It will follow a three hour tribute show on Sine FM from 3pm.

The concert will be streamed live on the band’s Facebook page from 6pm.

In a tribute posted at the time, a band spokesman said: “Not only was he a brilliant musician, he was just a fantastic human being.

“We are truly devastated and just don't have the words at this time. Please keep Paul and his family in your thoughts. Rest In Peace Paul. We love you.”

An online fundraising campaign for Mr Piercy’s family has already raised more than £8,500.

Mr Piercy was also a member of Rush tribute band Bravado and Thunder tribute band Backstreet Thunder.

He was also an acclaimed guitar tutor, teaching dozens of budding young guitarists across Doncaster the instrument as well as working in local music shops during his career.

He was also a lifelong supporter of Doncaster Rovers and was a familiar face to fans at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The funeral of Mr Piercy took place last week.
