Doncaster band share their success with new single launch

A Doncaster band made up of four musicians hope to expand the music scene in the town and say they’re going to put on a huge concert when Covid-19 has passed.

The White Lighters are a Doncaster band formed three years ago.

They’re made up of singer Liam Wilson, drummer Jordan Thompson (Taz), guitar player Ray Heath (Spud) and bass player Lee Cheetham.

“We grew up all over really, some of us in Skellow and Woodlands and one of us in Highfield.

“There’s some really great musical talent in Doncaster but we don’t hear about them enough.

“Hopefully putting our name out there will inspire others to be loud and proud about living here.

"Lets put Donny on the map.”

Jordan said the band has had extraordinary success and have never played a gig that wasn’t sold out.

Recently they released a new track named ‘27’ which was played on TV for the first time on Monday, November 22.

It was aired during the halftime show at the Liverpool vs Leicester game on Sky Sports.

“We’re massive Liverpool fans so it meant a lot to have it play during that match,” he said.

The band's first EP is named ‘It is what it is’ and Jordan said that influence for the tracks often comes from Doncaster itself.

He described the band's genre as indie rock with an emphasis on guitar.

“We’ve got loads of songs based on Donny stories,” Jordan said.

“We’ve written a full new album here during the lockdowns.”

August was the last time they were able to safely congregate as a group of four but they have big plans for when social distancing guidelines are relaxed in the future.

“We’re going to throw the biggest party Donny has ever seen,” Jordan said.
