“I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!”

As Joe Biden’s tenacy of the White House was finally confirmed after days of waiting, incumbent Donald Trump was still ranting away on Twitter, blasting out the fake news he’s been so vocal against in the last four years with the wording above.

Few will shed a tear that the most divisive president in American history has bitten the dust or be surprised at his enirely predictable failure to accept defeat, his lack of dignity and no doubt, being forced to exit office kicking and screaming.

The truth is, Trump has only himself to blame.

From day one, his unorthodox approach drew critcism.

He may well thought he was speaking for the average American, but his crazed Twitter outbursts soon grew tiresome, apart from among his cult-like followers who spurred him on to say even more outrageous things.

Back in 2016, Trump won because he was shattering the norm, saying the things others dare not say.

The same attributes that have lost him this election.

His aggressive, bombastic style might have found favour in some corners of the States, but his stoking of racial tensions, offensive language and playground putdowns of anyone who dared to cross his path just made him look like some spoilt dictator.

Most Americans want to get on with every day life and all it throws at them without having to worry about who the President is having a fight with today.

In short, the president was unpresidential. With high office comes great responsibility.

Simply yelling ‘fake news’ at anything he didn’t happen to agree with made him look thin-skinned and ridiculous.

Rather than trying to reach out to the people who didn’t vote for him in 2016, Trump concentrated purely on those that had, whipping them up into a crazed fervour where they were happy to believe every word delivered and prepared to start injecting bleach to defeat coronavirus if necessary.

In short, Trump only has himself to blame. If he’d toned down the bluster and madness, he might well have been looking at another four years.

As it is, he’ll now be left to skulk off and shout like a madman from the sidelines.

Good riddance.
