Seems a long time since Boris Johnson made his announcement on March 23 doesn’t it?

And reality still seems a long, long way away as we all adjust to the ‘new normal.’

We all long to get back to where we were before coronavirus, but the sad fact is, that’s not going to happen any time soon.

Darren Burke wants people to stick to the lockdown rules.Darren Burke wants people to stick to the lockdown rules.
Darren Burke wants people to stick to the lockdown rules.

But it will happen sooner if people could actually stick to the rules.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen and also reported on numeous rule breaches – people meeting up for mass gatherings, a Doncaster man getting himself arrested after taking part in a nonsensical anti-lockdown protest in London, people ignoring social distancing rules in supermarkets and huge queues at drive thru takeaways causing problems for ambulances.

We might not like these rules that have stopped us from seeing our loved ones, myself included.

But they are there to protect us, like it or loathe it.

And the sooner people abide by them rather than thinking they don’t apply to them or somehow they can’t be infected, then the sooner we can all get back to doing the things we want to do.

I’m no Government apologist or some sort of brainwashed sheep dutifully doing what he’s told to do – I’d happily be back cheering on Doncaster Rovers, picking up a KFC or giving my loved ones a much-needed hug and kiss and will be doing as soon as lockdown restrictions are lifted.

So ask yourself, what’s more important – meeting up with your mates down the park for a kickabout or dying, gasping for breath in the vast empty reaches of a Nightingale hospital with none of your relatives allowed to see you?

I’ve seen plenty of people forced to backtrack on the seriousness of COVID-19, our own Prime Minister among them who went from shaking hands with coronavirus patients to nearly dying from it.

Quite frankly, stop being a d***head, think of others, obey the rules and we can all get back to normal.
