Leo Gehlcken contacted the Doncaster Free Press after seeing a van blocking the pavement on Ivanhoe Road, Balby, just a few yards from the junction with Balby Road, shown in the picture.

He said: “This Amazon driver has parked their van so close to the fence that it’s impossible to pass.

“It’s also impassible for a buggy, pram, shopping buggy, wheelchair or mobility scooter. They would have to go round it on the road.”

He said he thought it was so close to the main road in, the A630 Balby Road that it posed a serious danger, putting pedestrians in the way of cars turning left onto Ivanhoe Road.

He said he had seen vans there numerous times.

He added: “I know Amazon drivers are under pressure to make speedy deliveries but in my view, this dangerous parking poses a serious risk to the public and therefore needs to be addressed in a public arena.”

Amazon has pledged to investigate the issue in the case of its own van.

The firm is a major employer in Doncaster, and operates several large warehouses from industrial estates in the borough including the iPort at Rossington. It has taken on extra staff in the borough in recent months to cope with the increase call for deliveries caused by lockdown.

In a statement, the firm said: “Amazon strives to be a great neighbour. We are actively investigating this matter.”
