A new food service delivery system has come to Doncaster to rival the supermarkets

Home delivery of food has become increasingly popular in 2020 and with increased demand for socially distant services it’s no shock that an industry giant has set up roots in Doncaster to compete with traditional supermarkets.

Amazon Fresh is now available in Doncaster, Sheffield and Barnsley.

I tested out the new service to see if it could match up with similar food delivery operations already in use from large supermarkets.

Amazon Fresh covers all aspects of food shopping from diary, baked goods, meats, fish and fruit to name a few.

The order that I was gifted came with a variety of fresh produce including broccoli, apples and avocados.

All the fresh fruits and vegetables came ripe and ready to eat.

I was surprised at the range available from Amazon Fresh and wasn’t expecting luxuries such as prosecco, cured ham and mature cheddar.

We made a small charcuterie board with the items we were sent and it brought a touch of something special to a Friday night in.

The online food shop often equates to necessity in my mind so it was lovely to get a few bits that I never would have normally picked up for myself.

A fan favourite in my household was the beetroot and mint dip that went perfectly with seeded crackers.

But that’s not to say that they don’t cover the basics, I received a jar of jam that has saved more than one breakfast this week.

The delivery was faultless and most importantly socially distant.

The driver placed the bags outside of my front door and I was thrilled to find out that it came in brown paper bags which are recyclable.

No other food delivery service I have tried has used anything but plastic so it was refreshing to see that change is being made even in a global pandemic.

Amazon Fresh has been rolled out in other areas of the UK but is now on offer in South Yorkshire for the first time.

The service offers unlimited free delivery for Prime members if the total comes to over £40.

Same day delivery can most times be accommodated as long as it’s booked before 9pm.
