“Partnership” could be formed between Scarborough health trust and York - COMMENT ON THIS STORY

Bosses at Scarborough Hospital have approached York NHS Trust about the possibility of working together on a future partnership.

A spokesman said: “The requirement to reach Foundation Trust Status by 2013 places Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust in a difficult position as we are unlikely to meet the tests required to become a stand alone Foundation Trust.

“At its meeting on Tuesday, the Board considered options for the future in order to secure clinically and financially sustainable services for Scarborough and the surrounding areas, within the context of a difficult financial climate and changing health policy.

“The Board has therefore made the decision to approach York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to explore the potential for a partnership that offers us the opportunity to achieve our organisational goal of Foundation Trust status.”

However concerns have been raised on how this will affect the future provision of services.

The Board firmly believes this strategy will enable the organisation to further build, develop and extend our clinical alliances and partnerships with other neighbouring trusts to provide the highest quality health services for the people of North and East Yorkshire.
