Pancakes make for sweet success for Epworth church fund raising event

People in the Isle were given a special treat when they attended a coffee morning at an Epworth Church last weekend.

Freshly cooked pancakes were on offer at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, and the church hall was full as a result.

New faces joined regular customers to enjoy the sweet treat on Saturday.

A hundred pancakes were cooked and eaten by around a hundred people in just an hour and a half.

There was a wide choice of fillings on offer, from maple syrup, golden syrup and honey, to the more unusual cherry pie filling and also the traditional orange and lemon juice with sugar.

The pancakes were cooked by Chris Atkinson and Elaine Thompson and then served by young people from the church badminton group.

Organiser Sue Leese said, “This annual event is always popular and well attended; at one point people were queuing to get in. £309 was raised for church funds.”
