Paedophile footballer Adam Johnson could launch a new career at a Doncaster jail - as a forklift truck driver.

The convicted sex offender, who was reportedly transferred to Doncaster’s Moorland Prison last week, could learn a new trade at the jail while he serves his six year sentence, according to the Daily Mirror.

According to the newspaper, that job is seen as one of the best in the prison and it is likely he will be offered other work, such as washing inmates’ bed linen.

Johnson was transferred to HMP Moorland on Friday, which the newspaper described as “cushier” than Leeds’ Armley jail where he begun his sentence.

He now has the option of a number of courses which aim to give inmates the chance of a new career once they are free.

Prisoners can train as tailors, TV repairers, gardeners, forklift drivers or brickies.

The ex-Sunderland and England star, who earned £60,000 a week as a player, will be required to undergo a sex offender treatment programme at the category C jail, the Mirror reports.

Anyone convicted of sex crimes is kept completely separate from the main prison population – even when working or training for courses, it added.

Johnson was jailed for six years at Bradford crown court in March for grooming and sexual activity with a girl aged 15.
