My Week with Axholme Central councillor David Robinson

I would first like to make mention of the Haxey Hood. An afternoon of mild weather certainly brought out the crowds and I really enjoyed the day.

On Tuesday I had the first of my monthly surgeries of 2013. Councillor Liz Redfern, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, and I run monthly surgeries in Epworth and Belton throughout the year and any residents are welcome to come along and discuss issues with us.

Wednesday was spent catching up on emails and preparing for the Corporate Scrutiny Panel meeting at the Civic Centre in Scunthorpe.

On Thursday I chaired the scrutiny panel meeting. We meet every three weeks with a varied agenda, providing oversight of a number of major spending decisions affecting North Lincolnshire Council and its residents.

In recent months we have been reviewing changes to the welfare system ahead of a number of benefit payment areas being moved from central to local government, from April this year.

I am proud that the council pledged to continue a freeze to the council tax bill for North Lincolnshire Council residents, for a third successive year.

On Thursday evening I attended the quarterly Neighbourhood Action Team meeting in Belton.
I chair the panel including members of the local policing team and community representatives from the ward. We look into key challenges facing the local community.

Later on in the week, I met up with Madeline Keyworth, Chair of Governors for the Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.
Shortly before Christmas I joined the governing body.

We’ve just seen the first major snowfall of the winter. Coun Redfern and I have had regular updates from the local gritting teams.

They seem to have done a cracking job of keeping the major routes open for all of us.
