In the Saddle: Pony play date at Port Royal

We've had such a busy season out with the horses this year but we made time to take our friend's children to one of the shows we went to at Port Royal and oh what fun we had!

Our pony Jasmine met 'Topsy', another little pony for the first time recently , when we all went out competing sharing our transport.

Topsy is my daughter's friend's pony who is shared by two cousins - Aleesha aged 7 and Layton age 6 and it was their first time out in the show ring. Both ponies loaded lovely together, having never met before and travelled brilliantly to the competition. All three children were riding with Aleesha and Layton sharing some of the classes throughout the day.

The children were giddy kippers and my daughter loved taking her friends out. It was nice for parents too as we were all a good little support group for each other when our children went into the ring together.

It was all hands on deck as there were some classes where the children had to ride in the ring and some where they did 'handler' classes on foot with their ponies. They were all incredibly cute and brilliantly behaved - and the children weren't bad either!

All in all we had a very successful showing day...and they all won a number of rosettes (and sweets) which made everyone smile. You can't put a price on such well behaved safe ponies for children. It was the first time my daughter did a ridden showing class on her own, the first time Aleesha did a lead rein class and the first time Layton did a mini handler class. We were very proud parents indeed and the best bit is we could share the moment with lovely friends! We are planning on taking them out again hopefully this winter as the showing season as really finished so it's showjumping for them all. Let's hope it is a nice and mild winter so we can get about.
