Doncaster farmer treated elderly walkers like juvenile deliquents

On Thursday September 19, five oldies (70 to 80 years) decided to try a new area for one of our short walks, approx. three miles. We decided to walk from Askern lake, a jewel, to Haywood.

The walk was very pleasant, except for litter dumping through fields and woodland.

We turned onto a sign posted bridlepath, stopped to admire the alpacas, then we walked round the outside of farm buildings (through no gates) and continued along the track.

Suddenly we heard shouting, and a farmer came across a field shouting this is a private road you cant come along here.

We were only approx. 200/250 metres from the turning back to Askern along a footpath.

But instead of the farmer saying continue along the track but don't come this way again, he refused to take into account our age, three of us with sticks, and insisted we go back and walk along a footpath which added well over a mile to our walk.

You can imagine the effect on us – total age 370 years – on a very hot day.

We would like to thank the farmer for being so understanding and for treating us like juvenile delinquents.

We would also advise him to install private road signs at each end of the track.
