This seven-mile circular walk starts at Owston Hall, and takes us through a variety of terrains, from field tracks and hedgerows to country lanes and urban pavement, writes Peter Rowsell, of Doncaster Ramblers.

Start at the small car park by the cemetery and head back to Stockbridge Lane.

1) Continue on this path going through a gate and entering an area of woodland, noticing occasional fitness training equipment hidden beside the track.

2) Walk along Grange Lane for 600yds then turn right onto Abbe’s Walk, turning left after 350yds to cross a field via Lady Gap Lane to emerge onto Suttonfield Road.

Turn right and then almost immediately left at a barrier, which should swing open.

3) Head for a corrugated gate about 340yds away, enter and continue straight through a small industrial estate onto a patch of wasteland.

Don’t be tempted to veer right, but keep left to find a hidden stile in hedge.

Climb over and continue along a short path to reach Sutton Road.

Turn left and after 530yds turn right Manor Way.

Follow this around to reach the A19 Doncaster Road.

Turn right and at the finger post 140yds away cross with care.

4) Continue in an easterly direction for half-a-mile to cross the railway and on for another quarter of a mile before turning right over another concealed stile.

On reaching farm buildings after crossing two stiles, take care to head right and shortly after leaving the farm there is a barrier gate on the left, this will swing open with effort.

Continue along this wide track for just under half-a-mile, with the railway line running alongside.

5) On reaching the road, turn right and head over the crossing and stay on the lane for another 560yds as it winds along.

On reaching a sharp left, take the path ahead which swings left at a finger post – secured with rope to a tree – to go diagonally across a field to reach Rockley Lane.

Turn right.

6) Despite being a country lane it can get busy especially with farm vehicles, so take care on this final stretch, especially after three-quarters-of-a-mile while crossing the busy A19.
