Oops! My leg's fallen off at David Cameron's house

Ben, who has two false legs after losing both limbs in Afghanistan was at the Prime Minister’s office for a photocall for a national awards ceremony when the incident happened on Friday

He said: “It’s an amazing building, with portraits of past Prime Ministers everywhere. I was walking across the floor when disaster struck and my leg fell off!

“It happened because I was wearing my uniform and it had pushed it off.

“It’s never happened before or since. Andy (Andrew Dernie, Ben’s stepdad) caught me and helped me to the wheelchair.

“We asked if there was anywhere I could go to put it back, and Samantha Cameron said I could use her private lounge. There I was in the first lady’s lounge with my trousers around my ankles, having my leg reattached.”

Ben has been described as the most wounded serviceman to survive his injuries and has been awarded the MBE for his services to charity. He and his colleagues from his Pilgrimbandits charity were at Downing Street after winning a prize in a daily newspaper’s awards.
