North Lincolnshire Museum temporarily closes for £150,000 revamp

The £150,000 improvement work includes:

A new gallery

New under-fives room

Refurbishment to the gift shop

Refurbishment to the café

The museum will reopen on Saturday February 13 with a new post-war gallery featuring a 50’s style kitchen, 60’s living room and 70’s collection items. You will be able to discover the lifestyles of these decades. There will also be activities and games for visitors to explore, including dressing up, kitchen sensory board and object handling.

In the main exhibition area there will be works by Harold Gosney. Gosney’s themes are often inspired by classical and renaissance art and the two subjects that dominate his work are the human form and the horse. This temporary sculpture exhibition covers almost 60 years of his work from 1959 to the present day and is supported by what he describes as ‘working drawings’, but are clearly works of art in themselves. You can see this exhibition until Sunday 12 June 2016.

A family fun day is being held on Saturday 13 February 2016 to celebrate the reopening from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Families will be able to get involved in a whole range of activities throughout the day.

Arts Council England has provided a grant of £124,213 for the refurbishment work and the council has contributed £25,000.

Councillor John Briggs, cabinet member for Assets, Culture and Housing, said: “North Lincolnshire Museum is very popular with families and so it’s only right we ensure their visitor experience is the best. These refurbishments will make a huge difference to the Museum and will bring all the facilities up-to-date - giving it a new look and feel.

“There are lots of exciting exhibitions and activities planned for next year at the Museum. Before it closes though, Father Christmas will be in his cottage waiting to meet children in North Lincolnshire, so make sure you don’t miss him.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the closure, but we can guarantee it will be worth the wait.”
