Hatfield has seen some of the highest rates of Covid infection in the Doncaster borough in recent weeks, with suggestions that the spike could be linked to the number of prisons in the area.

HMP Hatfield, HMP Moorland and HMP Lindholme all fall into the area covered by coronavirus boundary maps – but bosses at one of the three have said the rise is not down to Covid cases within the jail.

A spokesman for HMP Hatfield said: “We have no outbreaks. Everyone is practising strict C-19 guidelines, wearing mandatory face masks at all times along with adhering to social distancing.

The prison has also introduced lateral flow testing for staff this week as part of its coronavirus control measures to help give assurance, reduce risk and keep the virus out of the prison.
