NHS apprentice open day

Those looking to take their first steps towards a career in the NHS can attend an apprentice open day event.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) will host its ‘Apprentice Open Day’ on Saturday giving people the opportunity to find out about the different types of apprenticeships on offer within the Trust.

Members of Team DBTH will also be on-hand to answer questions, provide information and explain what career paths trainees can follow, once qualified.

Apprenticeships are available at Intermediate Level 2, Advanced Level 3 and Higher and Degree levels 4, 5 and 6 in areas including Business Admin, Medical Laboratory Assistant, Healthcare Scientist, Healthcare Assistant and Pharmacy.

Elliott Wilson, Training and Education Co-ordinator and former apprentice at the Trust, said: “I began my placement at the Trust in 2013. My Apprenticeship provided me with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills, helping me to take steps towards a career in the NHS.

“After finishing school, I was unsure about going into further education. I decided to apply for an apprenticeship at DBTH and, now as a full-time member of the team, I can say it was a very good decision.”

As a teaching hospital, the Trust is committed to providing placements, successfully recruiting over 100 apprentices in 2016/17.

From Business Administrators to Pharmacy Technicians, there are lots of opportunities across the organisation’s three hospital sites in Doncaster, Bassetlaw and Mexborough, to begin a career in health.

DBTH provide a wide range of health services to a population of around 420,000 at three hospitals - Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, and Montagu Hospital, Mexborough and community locations including Retford Hospital and Chequer Road Clinic.
