New season of movies opens

Members of Bawtry Phoenix Theatre Film Society will be taking their seats on Friday for the first of their new season of 18 films.

The programme of films for 2011-12, organised by Rupert Atkinson and his fellow committee members, gets underway at the Station Road venue with Oscar-winning The King’s Speech.

It stars Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helen Bonham Carter and tells the story of King George VI struggling to overcome his stammer.

The film won four Oscars - best picture, director, actor and screenplay.
