New road safety campaign launched in South Yorkshire

Dearne road users are being urged to support a new campaign which aims to cut the number of people killed and injured on the roads.

The South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership is launching the safety drive with charity Brake as part of the annual National Road Safety Week this week.

As part of the scheme, the team will be out and about across the area to promote their safety messages for all road users from pedestrians and cyclists to motorcycle riders and car drivers.

They will be on hand to give out information leaflets and to advise on any queries people may have. The team will be at the Lakeside Village Shopping Outlet in Doncaster all day tomorrow.

There will also be a ‘Drive For Life’ event throughout the week at Barnsley College, which includes interactive driving exercises aimed at young people aged 17 to 25.

Joanne Wehrle, safer roads education manager, said: “This is the culmination of our road safety campaigns calendar and an opportunity to engage with a variety of road users to help keep them safer on the roads.”
