New post office opening delayed

The service was due to launch at Greenhill Stores at 1pm on Friday October 9. However, residents visiting earlier this week found it was not open.

A Post Office Spokesperson said “We would like to apologise to customers for the temporary closure of Haxey Post Office. The branch was due to relocate to Greenhill stores on October 9, due to unforeseen circumstances this was not possible and the current premises is now unavailable for use.

“Any customers wishing to access Post Office services may do so from any convenient Post Office branch, including, Westwoodside and Owston Ferry. We would like to assure customers that are committed to maintaining service in the area and are looking to restore service as soon as possible.”

When it is opened, the new post office will provide an open-plan counter in the store, where the Post Office terminal will be next to the till.

The new branch will have easy access and space for wheelchair users will be provided.

All staff will be trained to Post Office standards of service and security and there will also be a hearing loop at the counter.

Post Office services will be available during the store’s much longer opening hours, 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The opening hours, which will increase by an extra 57 hours a week, will ensure that the branch is more convenient.

People will now have more choice of when to visit with earlier opening, later closing and service on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.
