New home for Jam Horse Ltd

The Jam Horse Ltd has moved into premises on Wharf Road, after outgrowing the family’s kitchen, in Cantley.

Owner Rachel Whittaker, who launched the business in 2015, following the birth of her second child, says she is delighted by the move, which is allowing her to produce more products - and has seen the company’s orders doubling week-on-week.

“Business is booming,” confirmed Rachel, a former business development manager, and mum-of-two, who decided to make the career change so she could spend more time with her young children.

“It’s a real family business in that everyone frmo my dad to my eleven-year-odl son pitches in!”

Jam Horse Ltd produces homemade jams, chutneys, sauces, curds, meat rubs, mustards and vinegars, all hand made from the very best quality, locally-sourced ingredients.

“I have a real passion for lovely food,” said 42-year-old Rachel, who learned to cook with her mum - a qualified cookery teacher - and grandmother.

“It’s been brilliant seeing the business go from strength-to-strength in the past two years, and since we moved a couple of months ago, I’ve really been able to spread out more and take on more orders, which has been great.

“Although this is a manufacturing unit, and not a store, I do have people coming here to pick things up and look around, which has been nice.”

And the small company is even in negotations with a major supermarket chain, which Rachel hopes may be stocking her products in time for Christmas.

She added: “I’m also in talks with the deaf collage and the local HM Prison about taking on a couple of apprentices in the new year. I like the idea of giving people the opportunity to do something to help themselves, to learn a skill and make a new start.”
