New figures show number of coronavirus infections has risen again in Doncaster

The current rate of new cases in the borough is 3.8 per 100,000 people in the seven days to August 7 – up from 1.9 on the previous week.

There have been 12 new cases, compared to six for the seven days to July 31.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories – pillar one of the Government's testing programme - and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent three days (August 8-10) has been excluded as it is incomplete and likely to be revised.

There have been more than 250 deaths from coronavirus in Doncaster since the start of the pandemic.

Earlier today, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary, said that only four people in Doncaster were currently being treated for COVID-19 in the town, with none in intensive care.

Richard Parker, Chief Executive of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “The challenges of Covid-19 are still very much with us, and the disease hasn’t gone away.

"Over the past few months the people of Doncaster and Bassetlaw have done a fantastic job and made so many sacrifices in keeping the transmission rates low.

“Currently we are seeing minimal additional cases of Covid-19 and we are in the lower risk category regionally. Let’s try to keep it that way for as long as we possibly can.”
