He said: “I am a triathlon coach and a UK athletics endurance coach and I’ve wanted to introduce an event like this for some time.”

He added: “In my business, Balanced Coaching, my main interest is in helping people get the balance right in their training, but I want to make it fun. I wanted this event to also be fun and I wanted to show people in the town and visitors what Doncaster has to offer.

“We have some beautiful places in the borough and the race introduced competitors to some of those areas. It took in Don Gorge, the River Don and 19 miles off the beaten track. I believe it to be the longest race in Doncaster for many years.

“I haven’t had a negative word said about the event, although we could have chosen a better day to race, as it was on the hottest day of the year.”

The event consisted of three competitions in one with an individual race, a race for pairs and one consisting of a relay for three people.

Tony said the event grew out of his realisation that the town needed something that showcased the best if had to offer.

He further added: “Doncaster has a lot going for it but I don’t think people realise what they have on their doorstep. There are some pretty areas that I feel this race highlighted. Next time we hope to make the race even better.”
