The Barnsley College Construction Centre opened this month, with a former college tutor, MP David Blunkett, performing the honours.

Special guests at the ceremony included the mayor of Barnsley, Coun Brian Mathers, Michael Dugher MP, Dan Jarvis MP and Dickie Bird OBE, the former international cricket umpire.

College principal Christopher Webb made a welcome speech before those present were able to view the range of construction workshops for brickwork, plastering, joinery, plumbing, gas and painting and decorating, along with other facilities.

The project architect at Bond Bryan, James Woodhouse, is a former Barnsley College pupil too. He said: “It was exciting to help create fantastic new facilities for a town I feel very passionately about.”
