New clothes wanted for patient dignity room

New clothing donations are needed to set up a patient dignity room at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

A dignity room is a place where staff can access clothing and footwear for patients who are being discharged from hospital but do not have adequate clothing to ensure their privacy and dignity is maintained.

Local shops and businesses are urged to dig deep and donate women’s and men’s clothing including jogging bottoms, T-shirts, slippers, underwear and nightwear.

Jo Loughborough, patient experience practitioner, said: “Sometimes a patient’s clothes may have been cut off in order to treat them or they are soiled or they perhaps they came in as an emergency admission and did not come in with sufficient clothing or footwear. It’s important to us that patients go home in a manner that protects their privacy and dignity.

“As we are approaching the winter months we’d be grateful for warm clothing. Please help us start up this new service by donating new items of clothing and shoes so we can make sure patients leave our hospital in a dignified manner.”

Volunteers will be running the service when it is up and running.

Please contact Jo Loughborough on (01472) 874111 extension 7125 or by email [email protected] if you have brand new clothing or footwear that you or your business are able to donate to the hospital.
