Land between Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall has been transformed into a new space for residents and families. It will help people to be active and support healthy lifestyles while also improving the look of the area.

The £300,000 improvement scheme includes children’s play areas, outdoor adult gym equipment, seating, allotment plots, car parking and more.

Councillor Joe Blackham said: “The transformation is great news for the local community. The area has been designed based on what the community wanted to see and will offer people of all ages a place they can go to have some fun.”

Councillors David Nevett, Ward Member for Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall, said: “I am pleased to see the range of equipment now installed on the recreational area between the villages of Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall for all residents to use.

“It is brilliant that Andrea and I could be part of organising the introduction of all these improvements and enhancements to this area hoping that people will enjoy being active outdoors, close to home.”

Councillor Andrea Robinson, Ward Member for Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall, said: “Residents will benefit from improvements to this area. There’s something for everyone. Residents are ready to rise to the challenge of allotment holding, fitness training and encouraging our youngest residents to increase the proficiency of their gross motor skills. Through the consultation we hoped to establish a ‘Friends of’ Group, I really hope we can do this to fully establish community ownership of this public space. We can only realise the full potential of this facility if villagers get involved. Please get in touch with your local councillors if you are interested.”

While the play areas and gym equipment are now open for the residents to enjoy, the finishing touches are being made to the tarmac paths and allotments.
