A male was arrested in Doncaster town centre after a quick-thinking officer from the Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Team witnessed him tampering with a Parking Meter.
The male, who is homeless and a regular town centre drug user, was using a plastic implement in an attempt to block the coin slot on the machine. Officers say this is a well known tactic which means members of the public lose money when trying to use the machine, only for the offender to come along afterwards and retrieve the coins.
The male was caught red-handed, subsequently interviewed and charged with Attempted Theft and Going Equipped to Steal. He has since been remanded in police custody and will be going straight to court.
