NCEL: Rossington Main look to move clear of drop zone

With no scheduled game last weekend, Lee Holmes’ side could only sit and watch as three of the four teams below them all picked up a point.

Nevertheless, Main have a six-point cushion over the bottom two which eases the pressure, although there is still work to be done to ensure their NCEL status.

Rossington have held the upper-hand over Teversal at Oxford Street, winning four and drawing two of the last seven league meetings.

The visitors’ only success came in a comprehensive 5-1 victory in September 2012.

Main’s biggest home win against Teversal came in October 2011 when running out 6-2 winners, which completed a memorable double having won 5-0 at Teversal on the opening day of the 2011/12 season.

In the corresponding fixture last term it finished 2-2.

n Maltby Main’s winning streak was brought to a halt with a narrow 1-0 defeat at title-chasing Handsworth Parramore.

The Miners had won the last five on the bounce, ending any fears of getting dragged into the relegation scrap.

Jamie Bailey was kept busy in the early exchanges, making fine saves to deny Simon Harrsion and top scorer Jon Froggatt.

The Miners started to come more into the game and were agonisingly close to taking the lead just before the break when Sam Forster’s effort rattled the crossbar.

Maltby continued to defend stoutly after the break. But with just 13 minutes remaining their resistance was broken when Froggatt pounced for his 26th goal of the season.

Maltby bounced back by winning 2-0 at Parkgate on Tuesday night. They entertain current leaders Worksop Town this weekend.

The Miners will be aiming to throw a spanner into the visitors’ promotion works as they look to make up for a 4-0 defeat at Sandy Lane earlier in the season.

Maltby are in League Cup action next Wednesday when they visit Division One promotion hopefuls Penistone Church in the third round (7.45). The winners will be at home to either Bridlington Town or Brigg Town in the last eight.
