However, with Division One relegation rivals Worsbrough Bridge Athletic going down 3-1 at Grimsby Borough, they still have a seven-point cushion between themselves and the drop zone.

Danny Green gave Rossington hope when he slammed home a cross on 17 minutes to put Lee Holmes’ side 1-0 up.

The Ammers hit back six minutes later with Matt Thompson tapping in.

Joel Hughes edged the home side in front on the half hour mark following a scramble in the box, before scoring his second and the home side’s third on 41 minutes from the penalty spot after Simon Dye had brought down an Ammers forward.

Holmes pulled one back a minute before the break with a superb 25-yard strike and the Rossington player manager restored parity inside the first minute of the second half with a neat finish inside the area.

Thomas Rose put the home side back in front on 51 minutes as Main tried to scramble the ball clear on the line.

Sixty seconds later it became 5-3 when Hughes completed his hat trick before scoring his fourth and the Ammers’ sixth with a 35-yard lob over Dye nine minutes from time.

Rossington hope to end their win-less run at home against Dronfield Town on Saturday.

The visitors were beaten 4-0 at promotion-chasing AFC Emley last weekend which brought up a fifth defeat in their last six.

Main will be looking for a first win in four outings against the Derbyshire side since doing the double over the visitors in 2013/14.
