Welfare fought back from going a goal down early on to draw level after the break.

However, just as Mike Carmody's men looked to have got the upper-hand the home side snatched all three points.

Armthorpe started the game brightly with Luke Williams and Jordan Buckham proving to be a handful for the Selby defence.

It was the hosts that took the lead on 11 minutes though with their first meaningful attack when Carl Stewart got his head to a corner.

Steve Garner fired an angled drive across the face of goal and Buckham headed straight at the goalkeeper who then did well to touch Darren Mansaram's 35-yard effort over the crossbar.

Armthorpe goalkeeper Adam Stevens made a fine block at the start of the second half  to prevent the hosts going 2-0 up.

Williams was then denied what looked like a certain equaliser only by a superb save from the home stopper.

Armthorpe grabbed a deserved equaliser just past the hour mark when Buckham steered home a header from Liam Radford's delightful cross.

Welfare then looked the more likely winners with Mansaram pouncing on a loose ball just outside the box to fire narrowly wide.

However, Carmody's side were rocked on 77 minutes when Selby were awarded a rather soft looking free-kick on the right. When the ball was played into the box Liam Neal nipped in to guide a header beyond Stevens for what proved to be the winner.

Armthorpe make the short trip to Parkgate, who are still without a win in Division One, on Saturday.
