My View, Steve Gill: Doncaster airport is now a more attractive option

Holidaymakers from across the region are packing their cases, going to Doncaster Sheffield Airport and then heading off for the sun this August.

With the school holidays well under way and the weather in the UK so unpredictable, lots of families from across Yorkshire have made the decision to follow the sun and head to the Mediterranean this month.

With access to Doncaster Sheffield Airport now so much easier thanks to Great Yorkshire Way, the link road from Junction 3 of the M18 to the airport reducing journey times from Sheffield to 25 minutes, we are now starting to look like a much more attractive offer for travellers who would automatically head over the Pennines to start their holiday.

It is great to see so many supporting the airport by using our services and now have even more destinations and seats available.

We’ve invested in our terminal this year with new eatery spaces and offers and have developed new products to make sure people’s travel experience is one to remember, for all the right reasons.

Our new meet and greet parking means people who pre-book can simply drive up to the airport and their car will be parked up for them and looked after during their trip. There is a new Premium Lounge for travellers who want to sit back, relax and be pampered from the moment they have checked in.

We’ve also invested in equipment for our departure and security areas with four state of the art X-ray machines for quicker security scanning of luggage.

Other improvements include dedicated airport hosts as passengers pass through security to dispense information, an increase in staff during busy periods and new scanning equipment for faster processing of boarding cards.

These investments allow us to increase the speed of passenger journeys through security while maintaining stringent levels, meaning a real gain in convenience for passengers.

This is good news for the holidaymaker. We are always looking for ways to improve our offering, to offer more from our incumbent airlines and to develop new routes.

Passengers recently took off for the first time on our latest route with Wizz Air to Cluj and this is already proving to be a popular addition to our roster, especially with the links to great skiing resorts. The next new route with Flybe will be Dusseldorf which will take off in October offering both a great leisure destination in terms of a beautiful city and as a hub to the rest of the world.

Our message is to give us a try, because so often we hear passengers say how easy we are to get to and what a smooth, enjoyable experience they have travelling from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
