My View, Cheryl Sadler: Getting ready for the Tour de Yorkshire

Doncaster seems to be turning blue and yellow! And no, not the latest spring fashions '“ but the bikes appearing around our town in anticipation of the Tour De Yorkshire which will bring thousands of spectators to the region this month.

We’ll be marking the day by launching our free crazy golf course at the centre – rather apt really given that this week South Yorkshire’s Danny Willett became the first Englishman to win the Masters in 20 years.

We’ll be welcoming families from across the region on April 30 and inviting them to pick up a club and give golf a try – even if it is the crazy version!

The town has a really positive vibe to it at the moment and the Tour De Yorkshire along with the lighter mornings and evenings have certainly put a spring in the step of shoppers at Lakeside Village.

Our stores are already stocked with the new season’s floral, bright and airy fashions. As the weather starts to warm – I say that tentatively as we all know how unpredictable the Great British weather can be – it is great to see the gradual change in people’s clothing. Gone are the heavy winter coats, scarves and hats; tights get relegated to the back of the drawers and out come the shorter sleeves, lighter fabrics and generally brighter clothes to fit the season.

This spring we can see lots of soft pinks, greys, ruffles, bows and in contrast to the subtle tones there are also bright and bold stripes. There is plenty for the gentlemen too, with lots of bright colourful t-shirts, short sleeved shirts and smart shorts.

To ease the cost of shopping for the season’s latest fashions and to treat our customers, we’ve teamed up with Roman, Klass, Jacques Vert and Autonomy to offer anyone buying two items from any of those stores a free tea or coffee and a chocolate treat at our Thornton’s cafe.

We are always looking for ways to help people to save and as well as the free tea or coffee treat we have recently launched our first ever customer loyalty card. This is a way for us to give something back to customers who come and shop with us time and time again.

Visitors get a stamp for spending £35 in one transaction and when they have six stamps they get a free gift from us. This month the free gift is a bag of chocolates from Thornton’s. Shoppers can sign up for the free card in our Antler store and all of our loyalty card members will get exclusive offers and discounts throughout the year.

Come and see us this month, enjoy shopping for your spring and summer fashions and make the most of the free tea and coffee offer. While you are here sign up for a loyalty card and we’ll be giving you even more!
