My View, Bobbie Roberts: Showcasing what our town does best

It is great to see so many businesses, schools and community groups getting behind the tour and supporting this event.

There are yellow bikes everywhere you turn in the town and we are all really looking forward to welcoming the visitors to our town on Saturday.

Once again Doncaster is set to showcase what we do best, working together to deliver on projects big and small.

The council, which has led on this project, has done a great job to rally the troops and Andy Maddox and Dean Wiffen deserve a special mention for all that they have done.

Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust is doing its bit to make the Fan Zone a great place for people to be on the day and Town Fields will be a hive of activity, best of all it is all free.

Visitors can enjoy a live music stage, fun fair and lots of activities while watching the race on a giant screen.

Right Up Our Street will be putting on two performances of The Great Big Donco, co-commissioned by Yorkshire Festival, with songs and stories of the Donco – a mythical beast of old Danum town.

Designed by different communities across the borough, the Donco will be brought to life for the first time.

As Doncaster gets ready to play host to the renowned cycling event, which features 37 miles of the borough’s roads playing host to elite cyclists from around the world, a team from Doncaster have headed off to Austria and are enjoying a warm welcome from one of our partner countries.

Right now a team from Doncaster are in Klagenfurt meeting with representatives from Portugal, Austria and Turkey to discuss a new European project which is looking at how we can produce sign language courses for British Sign Language users to be able to learn a second foreign sign language.

We’ve worked with many of these countries for a number of years on our online international sign language tool Spread the Sign and it is wonderful that thanks to European funding we are able to develop tools to help people who are deaf and hard of hearing to widen their horizons.

I know the team will have been made very welcome in Austria.

And we’ll be making sure that visitors to Doncaster receive a very warm welcome this weekend.

This is also a chance to say goodbye to Kully, who has led CAST since its opening, she is off to pastures new and I’d personally like to thank her for all that she has done for Doncaster.
