I joined Doncaster Housing for Young People in 2010 as a volunteer trustee board member.

In 2012 I was elected as vice chair and in 2013 was elected at the annual general meeting as chair.

As chair I have a strategic role in representing the vision and purpose of the organisation.

Ensuring the management committee functions properly and there is full participation at meetings, all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out.

I am also tasked with ensuring support and supervision is provided to staff, achieving targets set by funding providers.

The ethos is to support young people to learn to develop skills needed to help themselves and reach their own unique potential.

What do you like about living in Doncaster?

I am from a mining village originally and I have always felt the sense of community from Doncaster residents.

The people are the salt of the earth.

But we also have a lot of things to be excited about in Doncaster, such as the airport, the racecourse, the college, we have great transport links with the railway station, and then there are great places of interest like Cusworth Hall.

Do you have a favourite hidden gem in Doncaster?

We go walking a lot around the Cusworth Hall estate.

It is beautiful up there.

What would be your favourite day out?

Film - Sex and the City, the series got me through my 30s and it’s what we all aspire to, happiness, love, family and friends.

What sort of music do you like to listen to?

I listen to all genres of music, I like a good sing song to the radio when I’m driving in my car - until I stop at traffic lights and then I pretend to be talking on my hands free.

My ‘Jackie’ CD is one of my favourites, all the oldies.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love food.....all food, there is nothing I don’t like - except marzipan, yuk - if I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be a Sunday dinner with extra Yorkshire puds.

You’re stranded on a desert island and you can be joined by one other person - dead or alive - who would it be?

This would be Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

It would never be a boring day, his vision, creativity, ingenuity are inspiring.

He might also be able to find a way to communicate with the outside world and get us a Sunday dinner delivered.
