A FACTORY worker is today celebrating one of the biggest lottery wins in Doncaster - after scooping nearly £200,000.
Bogdan Staroscik, from Wheatley, came to the borough with his family five years ago and works on a fruit and vegetable production line as a picker and packer.
Now he has picked up a life-changing win after matching five numbers plus the bonus ball, to bank £187,346 in the Lotto draw.
Bogdan, aged 53, who is originally from Golub Dobrzyn in Poland, and who moved with his family to Doncaster in 2008, discovered he’d scooped the prize when he checked his tickets after the draw.
The father-of-two, who is married to Jadwiga, also 53 and a factory worker, is now looking forward to treating his family by splashing out on driving lessons and cars for his sons Mateusz, aged 20, and Pawel, 19.
He is also thinking about a makeover for the family home in Poland.
He said: “I’m very excited although it still hasn’t sunk in yet.
“At first I thought I’d only got five numbers so I was even more shocked when I checked again to find I had five plus the bonus ball!
“As I work for an agency I’m not always sure I’m going to have permanent work, so this is fantastic news and will make life much easier for us - although I plan to continue to work as I have done for the past five years.
“I have played the National Lottery ever since I settled in Doncaster, every Saturday night without fail.
“I sometimes play the Lotto on a Wednesday too, but I never miss a Saturday draw and I’ve been playing the same numbers now for well over a year.
“I have had a couple of wins with three numbers, and once I had four numbers, but never a big win like this.
“My wife and sons are over the moon and everyone is excited about what this will mean to us as a family.
“I still can’t believe that this has happened to me!”
Although the news is still sinking in for Bogdan, he plans to celebrate with family and friends to toast the good news.
As well as putting aside some money for driving lessons for his sons, and then a car each, Bogdan is keen to do renovations and a refurb on his house in Poland. A holiday is on the cards and he also intends to return to Poland more frequently to see his brother and sisters who still live there, as he only manages to make it home once a year.
He added: “I plan to take some time to consider how best to enjoy this lucky win. It will be so nice to be able to afford some treats for the family.”
Bogdan bought his ticket from the Tesco Express store on Wentworth Road in Doncaster, and the winning numbers from the Lotto draw on Saturday, March 23, were: 3, 14, 16, 19, 37 and 44. The bonus ball was 31.
But Bodgan still has some way to go to match Doncaster’s biggest lottery win.
The biggest ever win on a ticket bought in the borough was a £9.4 million prize - which was never claimed. It was bought in 2005, but expired six months later with the money going to lottery good causes.
Other big winners in the borough have included Marjorie Longdin, the aunt of foreign secretary William Hague, who won £856,648 as part of a jackpot.
