The ladies of the Tickhill branch of the Mothers’ Union celebrated their founder during Mary Sumner Day yesterday.
Mary Sumner, who was born in 1828, was the founder of the worldwide Anglican women’s organisation and she is commemorated every year on August 9, the date of her death in 1921, with services.
Mrs Sumner was buried in Winchester Cathedral with her clergyman husband.
The Tickhill MU ladies travelled to Sheffield Cathedral yesterday afternoon for a Communion service. They were reunited with their recently retired vicar Rev Canon Gordon Taylor, who gave an address at the service.
